On the mend but bored.

Hello everyone, you may, or may-not be aware I'm recovering from another hip-resurfacing-procedure all planned carefully so I'm recovering whilst the weather is very cold and mostly no wind. Day-to-day progress is noticeable and not counting for hiccups with drugs reactions I'm amazed how quickly I'm recovering to the extent I'm paying my gym fees for next month and have every confidence "I'll-be-back" early June.

One thing I wanted to ask you-lot is how-come no-one is using the Chrono ? I'm aware the Chrono isn't the favorite kite of one rider who made his comment on kiteboarder forum but the impression I get is no-one even tried the Chrono.

Regards to all of you and keep-up the good work.
Richard.

  1. Hi richard,

good to hear that you are making a speedy recovery.

Pete has just got himeself a 15m chrono last week and from what he has said, he seems impressed.

Im going to grab a go of petes 15m chrono next time he is out and if i like it; which im sure I will. I'll be ordering one ready for the summer, Because if its been anything like the winter ill need a 15m

  2. Hi Richard,

Very glad to hear you're well on the mend! Should be just in time for the Swansea BKSA I guess?

As Jamie says, I really like the Chrono. I was out in 8-10mph on Sunday doing better on the water than the guys on the landboards were. Its a powerful (BIG) kite, and feels surprisingly similar to the Furia, which I wasn't expecting.

Feel free to have a go on the weekend Jamie, if the wind is marginal!

  3. The 15 metre Chrono whilst still being a Chrono is-also still a 15 metre kite, at that size it won't be the best kite in the range though from my experience with the 12 I think the 15 is possibly going to be the best large kite I've ever used. My Chrono 12 has the power of a 14/15 yet handles like a 10. The 10 and 8 Chrono are both producing lot's more power than anything I'm able to compare with though there are holes in my recent experiences and I'm never happy that an hour with a kite gives a good idea of it's potential.

Looks like a good day for kitesurfing tomorrow here on the west-coast but I'll have to be content with bird-watching. (Smile)

was gonna add the 9m furia and 13m furia.
or should i go 8 and 12 chrono?
dont head down to beach too often when its light winds, but would like something relatively light wind for travels - speaking of which - off to Cape town from 24march till 11 april, u guys are welcome to join me!! hehe

  6. Graeme: I'm very Jealous.... I hope you're taking your kit over there!
Have you got your issues with the GoPro sorted ? It does seem a bit fussy about the memory cards you put in it, and also make sure you stop the video recording with the shutter button, prior to turning it off.
As for Chrono vs Furia, I guess it depends what you're gonna use it for. Both kites seem very good all-round, but the furia is sturdier and more suited to freestyle, whereas the chrono is lighter and more suited to upwind&jumping performance and freeride.
If you're like me and go down the beach on every marginal day, the 15m chrono is a must-have for your quiver.

  7. Hi Reece, regarding moving from Slingshot to Takoon, I used to fly Takoon Nova before I went to Slingshot, the Nova was a fabulous kite to fly but I hated the bar. Slingshot will always be a number-one quality brand for me, I used the Link which was a very heavy kite compared to the Chrono so there has been a huge difference in wind-range between the two kites. The Slingshot bar has always been the best in the market compared to any other and though the Takoon bar could do with further improvement I love the safety of two front lines when you hit the release and general ease of use, also, the combination of the Chrono and it's bar makes for such easy relaunch at a time I started to drop my kite again during the early stages of strapless-riding. I'm keeping an eye on what Pete has to say about the Chrono 15 because even though I decided not to buy a 15 this time I also get to the beach on every marginal day because those days are perfect for strapless practice.

The Chrono is a "must-have" Eh Pete ? Hmmmm better start looking closer at my fun-fund.

    Regards All.
    Richard

  8. pete, the probs im having with gopro are the attachments, first sesh i attached it via the sticky pad to my board, lasted 1 run, then i bought the motor sports attachment, does not stick to my board (sticks to all other boards-just not mine!!!) then last week i got pissed n superglued the sticky pad that comes with the helmet wide to my board, in the process i dropped the camera n cracked my water housing lense!!! got new lenses today, on my way out this pm - cant wait to see what will go wrong next!!
think ill add the 12 bigger chrono and 9m furia.

  9. Have you considered taping your camera to your lines just above the ring and pulley ? About 5 years ago the BBC did a little footage of me for a documentary on what Old-Gits are doing these days, the camera-man who is a local windsurfer taped his lens to where the two flying lines met and it did produce some interesting views.
